Previous Picks of the Month

Looking for great holiday or hostess gifts? Vinaigrette offers wonderful balsamic vinegars and flavored oils from around the world. Visit the store at 50th and Xerxes in Minneapolis and sample before you buy – you’ll want to bring some home for yourself.

Artist Pamela Sukhum has a gallery in International Market Square in Minneapolis. I love the nature theme of her work and the bright, vivid colors.

Stephany Eaton of Painted Ambiance - I recently had the sheer joy of working with local artisan Stephany Eaton on two custom finishes in a client’s home. One project was a metallic Venetian finish on a plaster-wrapped hood and the other was a nearby powder room filled with tiny stripes. Stephany is incredibly talented and versatile; she tackles both small and unusual jobs as well as large, creative installations! Visit her website to see some beautiful photos of her work.

Looking for bright, fun rugs for your home? Try Nola Home in Minneapolis’ Bryn Mawr neighborhood for an eclectic, global mix of home d├ęcor and gift items. They’re having a sale this month, too!

Shower Shield “In 2000, a rock chipped Second Glassfounder Ron Sundholm’s windshield. At the repair shop where he had it replaced, Sundholm watched in dismay as the technician put his old windshield into a Dumpster. Out of school for the summer and working as a garbage collector, Sundholm already knew firsthand how many valuable materials get thrown out. “I thought, I’ve got to do something,” he says.”

“By 2006, he had developed a lamination process that secures old windshield glass into a completely safe, almost unbreakable panel—perfect for room panels, partitions and shower doors. "We call it functional art because each windshield has a different curvature, and they all come damaged differently,” he says. “They’re going to absorb and reflect light differently; every one of them is absolutely unique.”

Second Glass 24-by-64-inch frameless shower door (hardware included): $285 (plus shipping). (503) 750-3878

Robin Wilson Collection with Holiday Cabinets. I had the honor of meeting her last month and she is a very interesting designer from the East coast (originally from Texas) who is collaborating with Holiday Cabinets in Wisconsin to produce a Ecco-friendly line of frameless (European Style) cabinetry which are affordable and offer lots of "green" options!

"Minnesota Standard Showplace" for plumbing products. You can see many different showerheads actually spraying water to help you choose type for your bathrooms!

"Natural Built Home" for green products for your home. Marmoluem (lineloum) flooring is my favorite, and it can also be used for countertops.
