Previous Projects

Here are some exciting photos of kitchen projects from last fall which demonstrate some of my new and creative ideas. In one instance, I asked my counter fabricator if he would execute a laminate countertop with a Corian seal and a Franke undermount sink. It turned out looking great and functioning beautifully. It’s a great option for clients who can not afford the stone countertops yet want the undermount sink option.

Another thing I tried was Marmoleum flooring, which is a revival of linoleum from years past. It is a green product, made with linseed oil. I’d love to try it on counters in the future. Check out the colors at the Natural Built Home or Forbo websites.

The third kitchen I did was very fun for me because I got to incorporate a dining room into a new kitchen space while trying a more European concept. I used very little wall cabinetry and designed a large island with lots of drawers for dish storage. To break up the long length of the island, we added a floating glass bar tip with a chiseled and frosted edge. The teenage girls at this home ended up loving to hang out at the glass bar with their homework!

Lastly, I designed a very wide, deep and tall appliance garage with a stainless door. This feature can store a great many appliances on two shelves while being within easy reach of the tasks at hand! This is something I could incorporate with any cabinet line and in almost any kitchen. I’d love to try one that goes to the top of the cabinets!

OCTOBER
Shower Shield “In 2000, a rock chipped Second Glassfounder Ron Sundholm’s windshield. At the repair shop where he had it replaced, Sundholm watched in dismay as the technician put his old windshield into a Dumpster. Out of school for the summer and working as a garbage collector, Sundholm already knew firsthand how many valuable materials get thrown out. “I thought, I’ve got to do something,” he says.”

“By 2006, he had developed a lamination process that secures old windshield glass into a completely safe, almost unbreakable panel—perfect for room panels, partitions and shower doors. "We call it functional art because each windshield has a different curvature, and they all come damaged differently,” he says. “They’re going to absorb and reflect light differently; every one of them is absolutely unique.”
