MSP Home Tour and Spring Punch

2011 Mpls-St Paul Home Tour

I’m excited to participate in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Home Tour this weekend! I’ll be showcasing a recent kitchen remodeling project I did on a 1929 two-story with owners Jennifer and Ryan Doubet in south Minneapolis.

We opened up the Doubet’s small kitchen by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. While we stayed within the original footprint of the house, we were able to add an eating and serving bar, built-in eating area and mud room. Rich cherry cabinets, granite counters, wood floors, hand-blown glass pendants and glass tile enlivened the new beautiful and functional space!

The home tour is a great way to get ideas and inspiration for your home, especially if you’re considering remodeling your home. Be sure to stop by this weekend and check it out!

Adding Spring Punch to Your Space

Local interior designer Rebecca Van't Hull of Mara O’Hara Interiors is featured in a recent Minneapolis Star Tribune article on easy and budget-friendly ways to incorporate color into your interior. Van’t Hull’s project was to spice up a monochromatic sun room with punches of color. She found her inspiration for the room in floral fabric that had hints of tangerine.

Van’t Hull’s advice for adding color to a space? “You want it to look like it developed organically," she suggests. "Not like you went on a shopping trip and bought a slew of orange."

Van’t Hull emphasizes that good design can be done on any budget and it all comes down to the details. "Accessories are an easy opportunity to introduce color and texture," she says. For this space, she incorporated mixed materials, including glass, ceramic and stone. And remember, fresh flowers always brighten a space!
